Winter Wonderland Wedding: A Snow-Kissed New Years Celebration at Sapphire Point Overlook

Kendra and Sam—two Texans in love with the Colorado mountains—kicked off 2025 in the most magical way possible: with a breathtaking wedding surrounded by snow-covered peaks. Their New Year’s Day celebration at Sapphire Point Overlook was nothing short of spectacular, and I was so honored to be part of it alongside my talented second photographer, Randi Ward.

A Last-Minute Change for the Perfect Winter Wedding

Originally, the plan was for a late-afternoon ceremony, but Colorado’s unpredictable winter weather had other ideas. On New Year’s Eve, the forecast called for heavy snow starting in the afternoon on the big day. With a quick decision and a lot of flexibility, Kendra and Sam shifted their timeline earlier to avoid the storm—a move that turned out to be absolutely perfect.

First Look and Family Portraits: Blue River Arm Trailhead

We started the day bright and early, meeting Kendra and Sam at the Blue River Arm Trailhead. This serene spot was the perfect setting for their First Look. Watching their reactions—Kendra’s face lighting up as Sam turned around to see her—was a moment that will stay with me forever. The love and excitement between them were palpable.

Afterward, we captured family portraits among the snow-draped trees. The knee-deep snow might have been challenging, but it added such a magical touch to the photos. The entire family braved the cold with smiles, their joy radiating through every shot.

The Ceremony: Sapphire Point Overlook

From the trailhead, we made our way up the mountain to Sapphire Point Overlook. Nestled high above Lake Dillon, the overlook offered a stunning backdrop of snowy peaks and a crystal-clear view of the lake. Everything was blanketed in fresh snow, creating a soft glow that made every moment feel enchanted.

Kendra and Sam’s ceremony was intimate and heartfelt, with the mountains standing as witnesses to their vows. The quiet of the snow-covered landscape made their words feel even more profound. As they exchanged rings and sealed their commitment with a kiss, the sky seemed to echo their joy with its brilliant winter light.

Wrapping Up: Main Street Magic

After the ceremony, we headed back into town for a few final photos along Main Street. The charming mountain town provided a cozy yet dramatic setting, with the towering peaks framing the couple beautifully. Kendra and Sam’s happiness was infectious, and every shot we took captured the pure magic of their day.

Reflecting on the Day

Despite the last-minute changes and the challenges of navigating deep snow, Kendra and Sam’s wedding was truly a dream. The timing couldn’t have been better, the snow added a gorgeous touch to every photo, and their love was the highlight of it all.

To Kendra and Sam: thank you for trusting me to capture your day and for bringing your adventurous spirits to Colorado. Your wedding was the perfect start to 2025, and I’m so excited for all the adventures life has in store for you!
